Welcome.

This is a list of Tom De Smedt's main involvements.

I'm currently pursuing my PhD. on Artificial Creativity at the St.-Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, and working as a freelance programmer and graphic designer for Burocrazy. When I have time to spare I'm developing for NodeBox or collaborating on a computer game called City In A Bottle.

nodeboxNodeBox : My main involvement. NodeBox is a Mac OS X application for graphic designers in which you use code instead of mouse-clicking and menus to design. My work includes the Linguistics, Web, Core Image, Bezier and SVG libraries, and the GDR module .

Gravital : In 2006 I wrote a research funding proposal for IWT (Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders). This resulted in a project called Gravital, a NodeBox spin-off which we're now working on. The project is in collaboration with the department of Computer Linguistics at the University of Antwerp.

Articles : The texts that used to be on replica.trapdoor.be - humor, graphic design and meanderings into AI, psychology and philosophy. In collaboration with Tom Van Iersel.

Mecca : An imaginary world written in hypertext form: descriptions can be linked and read in any order. A hobby that has been going on for far too long.

Trapdoor : The old website, a chaotic mess of nostalgia.

News: I'll be giving lectures on my work in NodeBox and Gravital at the AI & Creativity conference at the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen (22 may, The Netherlands) and The Agile Mind - creativity in Discourse and Art conference at the Koninklijke Academie Brussel (11 september, Belgium)
